Housing Specialist with the Refugee Resettlement Program

Internship, Vancouver, WA - LCSNW Office

Lutheran Community Services NW is recruiting for a Housing Specialist intern.  This position is responsible for developing housing resources for all newly arrived refugees in the Vancouver area.

 The major internship responsibilities are:
  • Develop a list of low income housing for refugees
  • Build strong relationships with apartment managers and landlords
  • Evaluate refugee housing needs based on refugee bio data (family composition, number of bedrooms needed, etc.)
  • Provide orientation about refugees to apartment managers and landlords
  • Secure housing for refugees in accordance with PRM Cooperative Agreement guidelines
  • Closely coordinate housing activities with R&P case management staff and program director
  • Make sure all housing rental agreements are signed by refugees and explain to them their rights and responsibilities
  • Assist in pre-arrival case processing helping with case assurances and contacting refugee's U.S family relatives about housing needs
  • Responsible for preparation of housing on day of refugee arrival ensuring all necessary items are in place in compliance with PRM Cooperative Agreement
  • Provide monthly report to program director
  • Participate in case management staff meetings
  • Maintain on-going contact with refugee families
  • Supervise volunteers/staff to help move furniture and equipment
  • Supervise donations and delivery of household items
  • Solicit donations for such housing items when not available

This internship position involves interaction with other staff members, volunteers, clients from diverse backgrounds, donors, and other outside agencies/contacts. This will require courtesy and confidentiality at all times.  Work sites may vary from the office environment in a private office setting, housing sites, a client’s home, or any other public site. Travel to various sites requires a valid driver license, access to a vehicle, and the ability to drive within Clark County, WA.
